Court ruling keeps German shops shut

BERLIN -- German shops are to remain closed on Sundays, public holidays and after 8 p.m. on weekdays, according to a high court ruling yesterday.In its decision, Germany's highest tribunal -- the Federal Constitutional Court -- quashed an appeal by retailer Metro AG to have the law on shopping hours modified.
