Alberta's Rx for medical information could cure ailing system

Love or hate Alberta Premier Ralph Klein's medicare reform plans, we should all pay attention to how his province is using information technology to transform health care.Although health informatics may not fire up politicos or pundits, it is central to curing much that ails the system. Industry players across the country agree that the starting point of the health informatics revolution is the electronic health record (EHR). Spearheaded by the federally funded Canada Health Infoway, all the provinces are working on EHR. Alberta is leading the way with a system that works today and is expected to cover the province by the end of next year.
