A more pedestrian-friendly Kensington?

Two years ago, some Kensington Market bohemians, fed up with our car-dominated culture, decided to put their local parking spaces to good use.Conscientiously putting the required $1.50 an hour into the meters, they took the spots over, laying Astroturf and setting up picnic tables.
