Waiting for Somalia

Where had I come across this peculiar brand of violent inertia before? Where had I seen this literary self-loathing and this deadened lack of initiative in the characters of a story? And then I remembered: There is a twisted, stunted tree; a pale excuse of a road, dusty and incomplete; and two men who wait and wait - without doing much to change their own fates -- for something to happen, for someone to come. But, "Nothing happens, nobody comes, nobody goes, it's awful!"
