Power politics of sex puts Africa's women at high risk of HIV
BANGKOK -- Gay men and heroin addicts have been joined by a new high-risk group in the world of AIDS: teenaged girls and married women in Africa. In sub-Saharan Africa, 75 per cent of the people aged 15 to 24 infected with the human immunodeficiency virus are female, a new UNAIDS global report says, and in every country in the region more women are infected than men. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan called the numbers terrifying.
