Student wins round in suspension battle

TORONTO -- A York University student and political activist was given no opportunity "whatsoever" to defend himself when he was suddenly suspended for three years last April.And the university's eleventh-hour decision to hold a disciplinary hearing only after the suspension was imposed was "questionable on both jurisdictional and natural justice grounds," an Ontario Superior Court judge says in a 10-page ruling released yesterday.
