The gay divorcees
While no one likes to rain on a parade, the earliest mention of same-sex marriage was quickly followed by the mention of same-sex divorce. Heterosexual or homosexual, all couples take the same leap of faith and trust when they marry: that their partner will be true, that both people will strive to make the marriage work and that they will honour each other until death do them part. But just as society had to come to terms with the fact that some marriages break down and require a legal exit, so it must accept that same-sex couples need a similar last resort. Since the federal Divorce Act currently defines a spouse as "either of a man or woman who are married to each other," something has to give.
