VANCOUVER -- What is time?In the far-out world that Laurie Anderson inhabits, time can be a cryptic riddle. "It's almost too scary to talk about," she said one Sunday night not long ago, onstage in Vancouver, surrounded by a constellation of burning votive candles as she mused about "the big rip," an inexplicable, phantom energy that scientists theorize could swallow us up in the end of time as we know it.
