Iraq moves to halt wave of attacks leading up to vote
BAGHDAD -- Iraq extended a state of emergency by 30 days yesterday to battle militants whose attacks have surged as this month's election draws closer, and interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi warned that he expects the number of assaults to rise as voting day approaches.
