Same-sex bill sparked urgent call for polygamy data, document shows

OTTAWA -- Ottawa ordered urgent research on polygamy last month, partly to allay concerns about any potential adverse impact of federal same-sex legislation, a newly released document shows.The wording of the original research proposal runs contrary to suggestions by Justice Minister Irwin Cotler and others that the $150,000 polygamy project had no connection to the same-sex debate.
