Top soldier in Iraq okayed illegal methods, ACLU says

Washington -- The former top U.S. military chief in Iraq authorized the use of illegal techniques during interrogations, the American Civil Liberties Union said yesterday.In a memorandum, Lieutenant-General Ricardo Sanchez authorized 29 methods of interrogation, including 12 that "far exceeded" U.S. military regulations as well as the Geneva Conventions covering prisoners of war, the ACLU said.
