New cancer drug limited to few
A breakthrough breast-cancer drug is available in Canada, but not to thousands of women whose lives could likely be saved by it.The drug trastuzumab, sold under the name Herceptin, is covered by provincial health plans when used to lengthen the lives of those with incurable breast cancer, but not for women in the earlier stages of the disease who see it as the next best thing to a cure.
