Survivor Vancouver: Beijing's latest TV hit
VANCOUVER -- Reality television might be the latest Western craze to sweep the People's Republic of China, but not all pop culture trends translate equally.Dou Pei, a young female busker who is disco dancing for dollars outside Vancouver's Granville Market, is a contestant on Survivor Challenge, one of China's most popular reality TV programs, now shooting the final six episodes of its sixth season in Canada. And considering that the show's broadcasters say it could reach up to 500 million Chinese viewers, BC Tourism is eager to help.
