Despite progress, AIDS fight a 'failure'

ABUJA -- As thousands of AIDS activists, scientists, politicians and health-policy experts gather here in the Nigerian capital, there is both good news and very bad news in the air.The year "2005 is paradoxical because more people are infected and dying because of lack of access to treatment, but on the other hand, there is major progress -- half a million people are on treatment in Africa," Peter Piot, director of UNAIDS, said yesterday.
