If city gets tax power, 905 will seek end to pooling

When the province introduces a new City of Toronto Act next week, no one will be watching more closely than politicians in the 905 region. The cash-strapped city expects to get more revenue-raising authority, and if it does, Queen's Park can expect to hear demands from municipal leaders in Durham, York, Peel and Halton regions for a provincial plan to end a financial arrangement that has seen more than $1-billion go from their taxpayers to Toronto since 1998.
