A history of separation: The Moroccan Wall

The Moroccan wall is a 2,500-kilometre-long system of defensive barriers, spanning Western Sahara from the Algerian and Mauritanian borders to the Atlantic Ocean.Built by Morocco in six stages beginning in 1980 and completed in 1987, it extends into and cordons off the territory of the Saharawi people, who have been fighting for independence for the former Spanish Sahara since the early 1970s.
