CAMPBELL, Elaine Helen
(née Leiterman)

Ageless, gypsy, eternal optimist, cat petter, dog hugger, birdwatcher, cow lover, avid B.C. Lions fan, scyther (scything at the farm in her 80s), natural gardener, hummingbird feeder, Seaman's Lime Rickey drinker, superb cook of world cuisine, brilliant conversationalist full of ideas and solutions, world traveler to ancient lands (riding a camel in the Libyan desert this past March), ever- stylish dresser, Jane Austen scholar, G&S member, opera buff, hardcore Scrabble player, cruciverbalist, antique buff, observant naturalist, historian, Ragtime music fan, jitterbug dancer, Northern Ontario Girl Guide, dedicated Tim Hortonist, 13 year National Ballet fundraiser, Egyptologist, WW2 RCAF wireless operator at age 18, doted-upon older sister, beloved aunt, mentor, role model, second mom to many, St. Lawrence Market Breakfast Club Member and last, but not least, Golden Cluck collector.
Elaine adored her sweetheart, Norman, and they shared 57 great years together, producing five creative kids- Robin, Melissa, Geoff, Justine and Nick. Her beloved grandson, Jamie, shared a love of history and song. Daughter-in-law, Vanessa, became an instant Kindred Spirit the moment they met. Elaine was proud of each and every one of us.
Her accomplishments were many and far reaching. She was the co- lyricist of the musicals Anne of Green Gables and Turvey, and sole lyricist of The Wonder of it All. In 2006 she received an honourary doctorate from the University of Prince Edward Island and proclaimed it one of the happiest days of her life. Although born at the Dome Mines in South Porcupine, Ontario, and lived in Toronto every winter, our farm in Covehead P.E.I. was the place that she called home.
A celebration of Elaine's life will be held shortly in Toronto and donations in her memory may be made to The Norman and Elaine Campbell Legacy Fund: Anne of Green Gables- The Musical Endowment.
