LOS ANGELES -- A funny thing happened on the way to the annual comic book get-together going on right now in San Diego, where the geeks and fans gather to talk about and dress up like their favourite characters and meet the people who create them: What is known as Comic-Con, now co-opted by Hollywood, has turned into what is arguably - in this age of films like Iron Man and The Dark Knight - the studios' biggest marketing event of the year.
