Ainsworth to build new Winnipeg plant

Ainsworth Lumber Co. has signed a deal with the Manitoba government to build a $250-million oriented strandboard plant in Winnipeg, the company said yesterday. Ainsworth said that under terms of the deal, a forest management licence is to be issued for 838,000 cubic metres of timber annually on a renewable 20-year basis. The agreement is subject to successful consultation with first nations communities and the successful negotiation of related operational agreements and approvals. Ainsworth said it hopes to build a plant capable of producing both oriented strandboard and oriented strand lumber. ANS (TSX) fell 90 cents to $25.50. CP
