Violent crime in city up almost 5 per cent

TORONTO -- Violent crime surged in Toronto last year, with increases in the number of homicides, sexual assaults and thefts. But experts say not to worry -- yet. The Toronto Police Service reported this week that there was a 4.7-per-cent rise in violent crimes in 2005, including a 23.4-per-cent jump in homicides. Sexual assaults rose by 8.4 per cent, and robberies by 5.7 per cent.
