Council minutes 101: Keep erasers handy

Budget chief David Soknacki (Scarborough East) is supposed to know the numbers. But Thursday evening, hours after council narrowly endorsed a pay raise, he rose in the chamber "on a point of boneheadedness." He had voted Yes when he meant to vote No on the 9-per-cent salary increase, which will see councillors make $95,000 and the mayor make $160,000 next term.
