The Clayoquot betrayal

Tofino, B.C. -- Given how history has unfolded in Clayoquot Sound, I must disagree with a few points raised in your editorial Logging In Clayoquot (Aug. 3).The suggestion that recent logging plans are "in keeping with the resolution" of the war in the woods is misleading. It should come as no surprise that conservation groups and scientists would oppose logging the last of Vancouver Island's old-growth valleys -- Clayoquot Sound's heart. The province has known for years that logging these valleys would meet opposition because of their ecological importance.
