Drug arrests up in Vancouver

VANCOUVER -- Bucking the national trend, Vancouver police made more arrests for drug offences last year than in 2004.The upswing in drug arrests was mostly the result of a concentrated effort in the city's Downtown Eastside neighbourhood. Police launched the initiative in an attempt to reduce the notorious open-air illegal drug market, where dealers sell drugs on the street within blocks of a police station.
