Gun control: nay
Ottawa -- Now that people have had time to recover from the initial shock of the shootings at Montreal's Dawson College, we hear calls for more firearms restrictions (PM Won't Bow To Pressure On Guns -- Sept. 16). More gun-control measures are not the answer. We have to stop single-mindedly focusing on the tools that criminals and deranged persons use to harm or kill others and concentrate on the causes of their anti-social behaviour. The fact is, this tragedy happened despite the fact that the Firearms Act, one of the most restrictive gun laws in the world, has been in full effect for years.
