The constitutional mire Ignatieff rashly entered

Vision may be an estimable quality in a leadership contender. But, with his troubling constitutional dreams, including his call to recognize the "national status" of Quebec, Michael Ignatieff has divided his Liberal Party and, very likely, the country. At the urging of his supporters, the federal wing of the Quebec Liberal Party has already endorsed that concept, ensuring that delegates to the upcoming national leadership convention must decide whether to accept or reject that loaded phrase. It is a lamentable solution to a problem that is largely of Mr. Ignatieff's own making.
