Ontario pumps up ER pay

TORONTO -- Hoping to address a crisis facing many of Ontario's hospitals, the provincial government is pouring $142-million into emergency rooms to boost doctor salaries and reduce waiting times.Health Minister George Smitherman announced yesterday that the money will go toward attracting and retaining doctors, reducing the amount of time a patient waits in the emergency department and adding 1,750 long-term-care beds.
