People started lining up nine days in advance of the September previews of Fort Langley's first master-planned community in decades, a bold testament to both the product and pent-up demand.
Tomorrow, ParkLanes Homes cuts the ribbon on its 24-home show village at Bedford Landing.
"There is a lot of interest in Bedford Landing because it is such a unique place," says Curt Woodhall, ParkLane's marketing manager.
"It is the only community in the Fraser Valley bordered by a golf course, river and urban centre. The location is superb; Fort Langley is a quaint town that is full of heritage."
As early as nine days prior to the September previews, people were camped out with folding chairs, sleeping bags and tents in front of the Bedford Landing sales office to be among the first to purchase.
A total of 378 homes are to be built, along with a pedestrian-friendly commercial village, a public plaza and wharf, and a refurbished rowing club.
"Our vision is to create a community for life, where people can purchase their first home and eventually move up to a larger home as their needs change. They can also retire in our smaller apartments on the river," says Mr. Woodhall.
The project is scheduled for completion by 2008 and will comprise the single family homes and row houses on offer tomorrow, as well as larger estate homes, waterfront houses, and three-to four- storey apartment complexes slated for later release.
The homes of Bedford Landing have been designed to look as though they have always been there, with heritage colours, Arts and Crafts architecture and mature landscaping. Built on the 78-acre site of a former cedar mill, the project will also include a waterfront trail connecting two historic Fort Langley locations.
"Knowing how special this site is, we have focused on every detail, from the design of the master plan, to the selection of the architecture to the development of the landscaping," says Mr. Woodhall.
The interiors have modern floor plans with contemporary finishings like hand-set tiles, maple cabinetry, soaker tubs and stainless steel appliances.
ParkLane Homes has built more than 5,000 homes since 1980 and has won over 250 provincial and national awards for design, construction and service.
