Grogan's account of Marley's exploits is belly-clutchingly funny, but no amount of humour can mask the couple's frustration and despair at their dog's destructive ways. Of their 13 years together, Grogan writes: "Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy. . . . Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and . . . unwavering loyalty." He may not have been the world's worst dog, but Marley inspired this funny, wrenching and unforgettable work.
