There are a lot of old Pynchon hands out there. This anticipation was on the basis of next to no information beyond the temporary appearance of a description by the author on amazon.com. To capitalize on the excitement, it seems, the publisher pulled the description (later denying any knowledge of its appearance) and required book review editors to sign non-disclosure agreements about the novel.
