Hospital awaits test on brain-wasting disease

LONDON, ONT. -- Staff at a London-area hospital are trying to resume normal operations three days after a patient showed possible signs of a very rare, fatal brain disease.Even though doctors at the London Health Sciences Centre University Hospital believe it's highly unlikely the patient has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease -- initial tests, still to be confirmed by the Public Health Agency of Canada, came back negative -- they are going to great lengths to make sure the risk of infection is minimal. In the process, hospital administration has cancelled elective surgery and quarantined an enormous number of surgical instruments.
