Warm spell puts ski-resort employees out in the cold

The Blue Mountain Ski Resort -- winter sports mecca for Southern Ontarians -- lived up to its name yesterday in the worst possible way. The resort has temporarily laid off the estimated 1,300 extra workers it hires on for the winter -- from high school students working weekends and farmers propping up their income in the off-season, to migrant workers from the Caribbean and visa-toting backpackers from Australia and New Zealand.
