America's appetite for ethanol poised to take corn from mouths of the poor

WASHINGTON -- The corn farms of Iowa and the tortilla stalls of Tijuana are 2,300 kilometres apart, but ethanol has made them virtual neighbours.The humble tortilla is a dietary staple for most Mexicans, particularly the poor. On average, Mexicans consume 10 of the corn-based flatbreads every day.
