Keeping Maher Arar out

If nothing else, U.S. ambassador David Wilkins gets top marks for gall.Canadian officials were given a confidential look last week at material which the Americans say justifies their decision to continue barring Canadian computer engineer Maher Arar from the United States. Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day said Tuesday that nothing in that file "materially changes our position. . . . It simply does not alter our opinion that Mr. Arar is not a threat, nor is his family. We are continuing to let our position be known on that." To this, Mr. Wilkins responded yesterday: "It's a little presumptuous of him to say who the United States can and cannot allow into our country."
