Phone giants laud Bernier plan

TORONTO, OTTAWA -- Canada's telephone giants are defending Industry Minister Maxime Bernier's plan to speed up deregulation of local phone markets, describing it yesterday as "long overdue."Telus Corp., Bell Aliant Regional Communications Income Fund and Bell Canada, the telephone arm of Montreal-based BCE Inc., all voiced their support as they appeared yesterday before the House of Commons industry committee.
