Landfill ownership shields Toronto from U.S. curbs

The latest move by U.S. politicians to restrict shipments of Canadian trash poses no immediate risks to the City of Toronto now that it owns its own landfill.But if an anti-Canada trash bill passed this week by the U.S. House of Representatives is adopted by the Senate - and that is far from certain - Toronto could face pressure later to share precious landfill capacity at the Green Lane dump.
