When George W. Bush signed the nuclear energy and trade pact with India last year, American mango lovers immediately started talking. One of the culinary advantages of the deal would be the opening of trade, and by extension, the import of alphonso mangoes - the impossibly fragrant, luscious custard-like fruit that is feted like a Bollywood star in Mumbai, India. The season is brief: The "king of mangoes" appears for only a month or two in spring.
