The Talisman Resort, a popular ski destination southwest of Georgian Bay that has been in business for 25 years, is expanding to include residential units.
The project will add 300 homes to the resort in the community of Kimberley, which is set amid the Beaver Valley's forests and trails. The region, about a 1½-hour drive north of Toronto and 25 minutes from Georgian Bay, has had few housing options.
"What we are offering here is the unique opportunity to own a mountain home in a setting where you will be surrounded by natural beauty," Talisman president Bill Minnis says, adding: "There's been very little development of any kind in Beaver Valley."
In phase one of what is called the Trails Edge community, three hotel/condominium buildings, each with 24 units, have been put on the market. The chalet-style structures will have post-and-beam accents, stone elements and large decks - up to 450 square feet - with tempered-glass railings to maximize views of Talisman's ski hills and golf fairways, as well as nearby conservation land.
Owners can put their suites into a rental program to generate income for as many or as few days as desired.
There will be geothermal heating and low-level lighting. Also, a waste-management system, widely used in high-density areas of Europe and Asia to pipe garbage underground to designated disposal areas, will be installed. It's a 20-minute drive to Collingwood's historic downtown core, and waterfront amenities along the Georgian Bay.
The Trails Edge suites will range from one- to three-bedroom plans, with open living and dining areas and, in some models, kitchens with islands and breakfast bars.
Standard features include nine-foot ceilings (12 feet on the top floors), and fireplaces and whirlpool tubs in the master bathrooms.
Flooring materials include carpet, ceramic and wood laminate.
Units will come with appliances, en suite storage lockups and a parking spot.
Owners who join the rental program will be required to the purchase of a hotel package, which includes solid wood Canadian furniture and home electronics, including a wide-screen television.
As a bonus, buyers will receive a one-year membership to the resort - valued at $1,750 for a family of four - that includes unlimited golfing and skiing, and discounts at its restaurants, shops, spa and other services.
