Lower Mainland catches lucky break

VANCOUVER -- The Lower Mainland will escape widespread flooding this weekend as a lucky break in the weather cut the peak level of the swollen Fraser River below the crisis point.The same weather pattern that cut off Terrace from the rest of the province is also responsible for sparing the Fraser Valley, said Allan Chapman, head of the province's River Forecast Centre.
