ARMED GROUPS WITHIN IRAQ
Since the U.S. security plan for Iraq began in mid-February, American forces have suffered the deadliest three-month period of the war, according to Pentagon records. There remain as many as 45,000 hardcore fighters, backed by about 200,000 active supporters of the insurgency.
