Born good

Children who kill are often denounced as bad seeds, but the roots of their murderous rage can invariably be found in their environment. Beaten by parents, humiliated by playground bullies or sexually abused by strangers, they turn the anger inward and develop eating disorders or other types of self-harm. Most abused children and teenagers remain at this self-hating stage, but a tiny percentage (averaging 20 cases a year in my native Britain) eventually turn the hatred outward, with fatal results.
