Bail for 83-year-old former SS officer would undermine public trust, Crown argues

VANCOUVER -- Releasing convicted war criminal Michael Seifert on bail would undermine public confidence in the administration of justice, a lawyer for the federal government argued yesterday."The allegations in this case are, arguably, the worst allegations imaginable," said prosecutor Deborah Strachan, as she pressed for Mr. Seifert, 83, to continue to be held in jail while awaiting extradition to Italy, where he has been convicted of a number of war crimes.
