Homegrown directors make good

New films from seven of this country's best directors and screen adaptations of well-known Canadian books distinguish this year's Toronto International Film Festival.Forty-one Canadian or Canadian co-production features will be presented during the event, up from 37 last year. One encouraging sign for the commercial health of the Canadian film industry is the emergence of first features that, in the words of TIFF programmer Steve Gravestock, "ingeniously flirt and fool around with the romantic-comedy structure."
