Bruin influx has officials tightening garbage laws
SQUAMISH -- It is promising to be an ursine autumn in many parts of British Columbia after a summer of record complaints about black bear activity.There was the mauling death of a mountain biker near Invermere in July, and an attack on a four-year-old girl and her grandmother near Nelson on Aug. 24. Two weeks ago, Jane Tillotson rescued her visiting granddaughter, Megan Chapple, after the little girl was attacked in Ms. Tillotson's backyard in the West Kootenays. And, in the first incident, Calgary speech pathologist Robin Kochorek was attacked and killed on July 20 while mountain biking near the Alberta border.
