A wild digression from discussing their movie Sleuthhad occurred, and suddenly Caine was talking about befriending John Wayne. "You can call me Duke, or you can call me Mr. Wayne," the cowboy instructed the young Cockney. "So," Caine told me, "I always called him Duke."
