More donations, fewer donors

CALGARY, TORONTO -- Canadians gave a record $8.5-billion to charity last year, but the number of donors appears to be shrinking, according to new figures revealed yesterday.A Statistics Canada report on donations claimed by taxpayers showed an 8.3-per-cent increase in gifts, up from $7.9-billion the year before. The bump was felt in every province and territory and pushed the median donation nationwide up to $250.
