Lawyers lose appeal; Khadr's trial set to begin

Guantanamo Bay, Cuba -- An appeals court yesterday rejected efforts by lawyers for Omar Khadr, the Canadian accused of being a terrorist, to again delay his long-postponed trial.The controversial military commission remains scheduled to begin tomorrow. Yesterday's ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit means "Omar, as an alleged former child solider, will be found to be an unlawful enemy combatant without even having the opportunity to contest whether the designation violates international law, which it clearly does," said Lieutenant-Commander Bill Kuebler, his military lawyer.
