Quebec willing to go it alone if Ottawa scraps gun registry

QUEBEC -- Premier Jean Charest wants Ottawa to delegate powers and money to Quebec to maintain the gun registry in the province should the federal government move to abolish it.The province wants the right to enforce tougher controls over the transportation and storage of firearms. The two levels of government have held discussions and Quebec is waiting for an answer.
