Whistler venues open their slopes
WHISTLER, B.C. -- The air was crisp, and wet snow dropped steadily but gingerly on the gathering of Olympic officials who beamed as though overlooking a newborn child at Blackcomb Mountain yesterday.The Whistler Sliding Centre, which will play host to bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions at the 2010 Winter Games, was unveiled after five years of planning and building. The delegate-heavy ceremony marked the completion of venue construction in this mountain resort. It was hailed as a "landmark" day by Vancouver Olympic Games Organizing Committee officials.
