Revelstoke Mountain Resort will kick off the holidays tomorrow with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new eight-person, high-speed gondola and quad chairlift.
The lifts will give patrons access to 27 runs with 4,735 vertical feet of ski terrain, says Marilyn Hennessy, vice-president of marketing and sales for the resort.
"This is the birth of a 25-year-plus dream for the town of Revelstoke and the start of a legacy project," she says.
"The ... opening is a major milestone for the development and the real estate," agrees Sally Carmichael, director of sales and marketing for Sotheby's International Realty Canada.
While Revelstoke has long been a haven for heli/cat skiers, the mountain's new lift gives homeowners at the resort development direct access. "This is an opportunity to own where the terrain has traditionally been for heli/cat skiers only.
"Now people who own here ... can experience the 40 to 60 feet of annual Selkirk powder from their doorstep," says Ms. Carmichael.
"To our knowledge, nowhere else on the planet does one resort provide lift, cat and heli skiing from one village area," adds Ms. Hennessy.
When complete, the $1-billion Revelstoke Mountain Resort will contain more than 5,000 houses with 2,000 hotel suites, 1,500 resort condominiums, 850 townhouses, and 550 single-family lots. The units will be connected by pedestrian walkways, lined with 500,000 square feet of commercial/retail space with boutique shops, restaurants and coffee houses.
The Revelstoke resort hopes to rival the all-season appeal of Whistler and has already garnered international attention with more than 50 per cent of its first $70-million in sales coming from outside Canada.
The development's next release will include condos, luxury townhouses and single-family estate homes with private helicopter pads and views of the Monashee Mountains and Columbia River.
