LEGISLATION TO REDUCE TOXIC CHEMICALS
Companies will be required to reduce the emission of toxic chemicals over an unspecified period of time under new legislation proposed in yesterday's provincial budget.A budget that was soft on environmental initiatives pledged $41-million over four years for toxic legislation and to develop a toxics reduction strategy. The Ministry of Environment will work with two other departments - Economic Development and Research and Innovation - to initiate strategies that will reduce industry's reliance on toxic substances.
